এই নামগুলো আমার কবিতায় প্রায়ই আসছে কেন তা জানতে চেয়েছেন কেউ-কেউ। 
এনারা আমার প্রেমিকা ।
এনারা সবাই প্রজাপতি প্রজন্মের নারী।

কবি অরবিন্দকৃষ্ণ মেহরোত্রা

কবি অরবিন্দকৃষ্ণ মেহরোত্রা ইংরেজিতে লেখেন। বহুকাল পর তাঁর কবিতার বই প্রকাশিত হল। তিনি এলাহাবাদ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ইংরেজি ভাষার অধ্যাপক। এই বছর অবসর নিলেন । সত্তর দশকে তিনি একটি কবিতা লিখেছিলেন । কবিতাটির নাম 'প্রার্থনা' । উৎসর্গ করেছিলেন ইন্দিরা গান্ধী আর মলয় রায়চৌধুরীকে। মিচিগান স্টেট ইউনিভার্সিটির এশিয়ান স্টাডিজ সেন্টারে কবিতাটির পাণ্ডুলিপি সংরক্ষিত।  কবিতাটি আবার পড়ে মনে হল ১৯৭০ সালে ভারতবর্ষের যেমন ছবি তাঁর সামনে ছিল তা থেকে বিশেষ বদলায়নি, বরং আরও খারাপ হয়ে চলেছে গরিব মানুষদের ক্ষেত্রে। কবিরা কিন্তু আর এরকম কবিতা লেখেন না । মনে হয় এখনকার কবিরা ভারতীয় সমাজের বাইরে বসবাস করেন। আমি সম্পূর্ণ কবিতাটি এখানে তুলেদিলুম:-

Homage to thee

India
my beloved country, ah my motherland
you are , in the world's slum
the lavatory

the septik tank where in paper gutters
fall the
marksroubledollaryenlirasfrancs
yet our stomachs remain sirens
tooting pathetic messages

I am so used to your cities with a
chain reaction of suburbs
where whole families live in bathrooms
and generations are pushed out of skylights
and the next one sticks out its head
like a tapeworm through frozen shit,
used to the village reduced to a bone
and then swallowed.
I am used to seeing pot-bellied children
ride the dog with jockey's confidence,
used to the old man pick the nose
in prayer-like concentration,
used to
          a hand
          rag like
          wiping the
          mouse like
          car
          with a leaf
          outside
          Industry House.

একাকীত্বের আনন্দ

আজকাল একাকীত্বের আনন্দ উপভোগ করছি। একেই কি লাইটনেস অফ বিইং বলব ? বেশ ভালো লাগছে একা থাকতে।
